About the Scholarship

Honouring the life and legacy of a great leader and innovator, the Achim Boehme Scholarship enshrines his lifelong contribution to the shipping industry as well as to Lomar, helping to educate and develop the leaders of tomorrow. Always supportive of young people pursuing careers in his industry, Achim was a great mentor and teacher to many who have since pursued their careers in shipping. This scholarship programme, which was founded in his name, enhances our support of young people still further. Developed in partnership with the City University of Applied Sciences (Hochschule Bremen) a leading institute in Bremen, it provides financial and other support to young people interested in a career in the maritime sector.

The Achim Boehme Scholarship supports the studies of dedicated and talented students through scholarships and vocational support such as the arrangement of internships. The programme contributes to the cost of education and helps prepare students for their professional careers ahead. In particular, students who have limited economic opportunities due to personal circumstances are able to seek some financial support. Applicants must be enrolled at Hochschule Bremen for the international degree programmes in:

  • Ship Management - Nautical Sciences B.Sc., comprising eight semesters including two internship semester (each six months training on board) and bachelor thesis, or
  • Shipping and Chartering B.A., comprising seven semesters including the practical semester and the bachelor thesis
